IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Debra
Robinson-Mckenney
January 31, 1965 – June 18, 2025
Mrs. Debra Robinson-McKenney was born in Frankfurt, Germany, on January 31, 1965, to the parents of Hollie Robinson Jr. and Bobbie Robinson. She excelled in her academics and decided to further her education. She was accepted into Valdosta State University, receiving her bachelor's degree in Speech-Language Pathology.
While working at Cook Elementary School, she taught speech to numerous needy children. She then saw the need for substance and drug abuse prevention, which inspired her work with Behavioral Health Services. She traveled, presenting preventive workshops at conferences and schools for many years. Debra felt a calling back to the Cook County School system in a different capacity. She began working with Brother's Helping Others after-school program, which later became Cook County Operation Care after-school program, helping children in the Cook County area excel academically.
Mrs. Debra had a giving, honest, and loving spirit. She always wanted and tried her best to help others in need. Her good friend, Mr. Jerome Carter, inspired her involvement in politics. She was elected to the Sparks City Council and later continued to serve her community as a Cook County Commissioner from 2011 until 2025.
Mrs. Debra accepted Christ at a young age and joined Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, where she was active for many years. At Bethel, she served in her beloved choir as Choir President and Educational Dean. Mrs. Debra loved her church family and loved serving the Lord.
Mrs. Debra loved and cherished her family first and foremost. She leaves to cherish her beloved memories: Her husband, Donald Mckenney, of Queens, NY, two gorgeous daughters, Daisha Birdine (Myrick) and Dyamond Huff. She was the second oldest of her four beautiful sisters: Demita Williams of Griffin, GA, Diane Traylor (Teddie Sr.) of Columbus, GA, Deola Robinson of Columbus, GA, Dewanna Robinson of Adel, GA, and one very handsome brother, Hollie Robinson III of Columbus, GA along with her loving nieces and nephew.
Her love for her family and community has touched generations, and she will be greatly missed.
