Obituary

His Life Story "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." 2 Timothy 4:7 Rev. Elkanah Martin Sr was born November 28, 1937 in Adel, GA to the late Ruth Wilcox and Lewis Pitts. At an early age, Elkanah (Affectionately called E.L) gave his life to Christ and joined Emmery Chapel A.M.E. Church in Ashburn, GA where he eagerly served as a member of the Steward and Trustee Boards. After moving back to Adel, he joined Piney Grove Baptist Church where he served in many capacities. Once he became an ordained minister, he was the pastor at Bethlehem Baptist Church, Howard, GA for a number of years. He returned to Piney Grove Baptist Church where he became assistant pastor. E.L. attended Cook County Training School in Adel, GA. He was a carpenter for Morris Construction Company in Ashburn, GA for many years. Later on, he became an independent contractor. E.L. was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Pinkie Walker Martin. This union was blessed with 5 children, 1 preceded in death. Later in life, he joined in matrimony to the late Ethel Crockett Martin, and they were blessed with 2 children. On Friday, December 4, 2020, E.L. transitioned his soul and went home to rest. He is preceded in death by his parents; his spouses; a daughter, Carrie DeLois and three brothers; Leroy, Benjamin and Raymond Wilcox. To cherish the beauty of his fond memories are his children, Mary Ruth Thomas, Elkanah Martin Jr. (Bridget), Delphine Collins, Johnnie Collins (LaDonna), Antionette Hopkins (Cleatus), Elkanah Crockett (Tonja), Kent Martin, Delisha Sailor, Awanda Crockett; Sisters, Carolyn Walton, Patricia White; Brother, Joseph H. Wilcox (Rudeen); Brother-in-law, Edward Crockett (Fannie); Sister-in-laws, Ola Mae Walker, Lillie Mae Walker-Graddic, Mary Ann Walker; 24 grandchildren, a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives, and sorrowing friends.
