Elveria Newsome was born in Brooks County, Georgia, on November 29, 1938, to the parentage of Noner and Rayford Yearby. She received her education at Rosenwald Middle School and graduated from Rosenwald - Morven High School. She also attended technical school and received a diploma in cosmetology.
Elveria (Vera) married the love of her life, Thomas Newsome, Jr. in 1959. They shared a life of selfless love for each other. The union was rooted in faith, serving the Lord, and raising their family.
Elveria's unwavering faith guided her to wholeheartedly accept Christ as the head of her life. She served faithfully as a devoted mother of New Prospect Baptist Church, exemplifying humility, dedication, and love.Vera remained steadfast in her belief that Christ should be honored above all.
Thomas and Elveria dedicated their lives to touching everyone in their community. Elveria's impact was so profound that many called her "Mama or Grandmama." She spread love and compassion wherever she went.
Elveria cherished spending a week of quality time with each of her children. She enjoyed working on crossword puzzles and reading her Bible; but her favorite moments were filled with laughter, storytelling from her playing high school basketball, and sharing wisdom with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her dad Rayford Yearby, mother Noner Yearby, her daughter Deborah Newsome Montgomery, 2 brothers Rayford Yearby, Jr., and Elder Cleveland Williams and 2 sisters Virginia Sermons and Betty Rawls Newsome, and her husband.
Peacefully and quietly, Elveria entered eternal rest on January 15, 2026. She leaves loving memories to her loving children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and extended family; 4 daughters; Evangelist Brusilla Newsome of Adel, GA, Santina (Tharren) Printup of Kathleen, GA, NeKenya (Derek) McKinney of Albany, GA, and Casey Troutman Newsome of Adel, GA; 2 sons; Thomas (Sebrina) Newsome, III, of Adel, GA and Tony (Joann) Pullins of Hawkinsville, GA; 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, one sister Helen Young of Charlotte, NC, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Elveria and her husband raised 3 special nieces and 2 nephews; James West Newsome, Katrina Newsome, Marilyn Newsome Arnold, Patricia Newsome, and Spencer Newsome. She has a sister-in-law Margaret Williams of Adel, GA; a special cousin Annette Burns, and a special friend Linda Seymore of Adel, GA, and Peggy Stockdale of Kennesaw, GA.
