IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James
Owens. Sr.
November 8, 1955 – April 15, 2025
James Owens Sr., 69, of Adel, GA, passed away on April 15, 2025, at South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta, GA. He was born on November 8, 1955, in Barney, GA, and graduated from Cook High School in 1975.
James was a devoted and reliable husband to Carolyn L. Owens, with whom he shared 50 loving years of marriage. He was a dedicated and caring father to Almeta Owens, Priscilla O.S. Hernandez, and James Owens Jr. He especially cherished his role as a grandfather, pouring extra love and care into Kasmira K. Smith and James Owens III.
James worked as a Sander and Boiler Operator at Weyerhaeuser, later known as SierraPine, where he was proud of his role in the lumber industry. His interests and activities reflected the essence of who he was—not a perfect man, but one who lived life fully and loved deeply. James had a heart for service and a desire to help others as God called him to do. In serving alongside our mother, he planted those same seeds of compassion and love into his children. We are forever grateful to you, Daddy.
He is survived by his wife Carolyn Owens; his children, Almeta Owens, Priscilla O.S. Hernandez, and James Owens Jr.; his grandchildren, Kasmira K. Smith and James Owens III; his sisters, Jeanette Wilcox, Betty Lucy (John Lucy), and Debra Bell (Willie Bell); his brother Tommy Owens, (Arletha Owens); his sister and brother in law, Robin and Frank Sirmons from Nichols, FL; and his brother in laws, Jerry Lewis and Robert Lewis both of Lakeland, FL. He also leaves behind many other loving family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
James was preceded in death by his father Tom Owens, mother Gloria Thompson Owens, and his late siblings Patrick O'Neal Owens and Simmie Owens and his favorite dog Buddy.
