IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ozell
Lane, Sr.
August 23, 1940 – December 27, 2025
Mr. Ozell Lane, Sr. was born on August 23, 1940, in Hahira, Georgia, to the late Onie James Lane and Edna Elizabeth Lane. He was a man of strength, kindness, and quiet wisdom whose life was firmly rooted in love for his family, deep respect for his community, and a tireless work ethic that inspired all who knew him. Raised in Hahira, Georgia, Mr. Lane developed strong values early in life that guided him through every chapter. He was a graduate of Webb-Miller High School, Class of 1956, in Hahira, Georgia, and later earned his degree from Worsham College of Mortuary Science in Chicago, Illinois, in 1963. In 1964, he proudly enlisted in the United States Army and honorably served his country until 1966. Following his military service, he became a licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer in 1969.
In 1970, Mr. Lane founded Lane Memorial Chapel, establishing a lasting reputation for "Service Beyond Service." He was proud to be the founder of the first Black-owned funeral home in Adel, Georgia, creating a legacy of service that continues to impact the community. He was also a faithful member of Elm Street Church of Christ in Adel, Georgia. On December 31, 1964, Mr. Lane united in marriage with the love of his life, Margaret Ann Carter-Lane. Their bond was unmistakable when you saw one, you saw the other reflecting a lifetime of love, devotion, and partnership.
Mr. Lane dedicated much of his life to his calling as a Funeral Director and Embalmer. He was widely respected for his professionalism, humility, integrity, and compassionate care. He believed in doing things the right way quietly, diligently, and with heart. Beyond his professional life, he was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, and loyal friend. He treasured time spent with family, enjoyed sharing stories, lending a helping hand, and making people laugh with his gentle humor. In his quieter moments, he found great joy and peace in fishing, a pastime he truly loved and often shared with family and friends. His calm presence and steady spirit brought comfort wherever he went. Guided by faith and patience, he consistently put others before himself.
Mr. Ozell Lane, Sr. was preceded in death by his parents, Onie James Lane and Edna Elizabeth Lane, and he is lovingly reunited with his devoted wife, Margaret Ann Carter-Lane.
He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved children: Ozell (Kimberly) Lane, Jr., Sybrenia Lane, Monica Lane, Kelvie Lane, and Tamika Lane, all of Adel, Georgia; one sister, Diane (Harrell) Tucker of Red Banks, Mississippi; two grandchildren whom he helped raise, Joel (Cloretta) Lane and Malik Lane of Adel, Georgia; seventeen grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren; a special uncle, Tony Lane of Adel, Georgia; two beloved aunts, Wilma Lane and Willie Pearl Lane, both of Adel, Georgia; a special cousin, Darrell Alford of Fayetteville, North Carolina; a special sister-in-law, Cleatrice (Ben) Pickett of Cecil, Georgia; two special God-children, Leroy Jackson and Bernard (Penny) Johnson; devoted caretakers, Angela Smith and James "Nick" McCobb; a special friend, Willene Stephens; along with a host of other relatives, friends, colleagues, and loved ones.
