I thank Christ Jesus out Lord, who has given me strength, that he considered me faithful appointing me to service. 1 Timothy 1:12On the morning of April 13, 2021, the Angel of God visited Mrs. Rena Sumlin McCann Andrew at the Pruitt Health Nursing Home in Valdosta, Georgia, spoke peace to her body and soul, and called her from labor to reward.
Mrs. Andrew, daughter of the late Luther Sumlin and Della Odom Sumlin was born October 12, 1925 in Wayne County, Mississippi, and she was educated in Wayne County Mississippi. She was joined in marriage to Preniss McCann from 1940-1944. She was then married to Clyde Andrew, Sr. from 1947-1996.Great was Mrs. Andrew's faithfulness to her family and to her church. Faithful to her family, Muh Dear or Madea (as she was affectionally called) not only cooked and did laundry for her children, but she did the same and more for her nieces and nephews every day. Rarely was there a Sunday when dinner was absent from her home kitchen or absent from the church kitchen during special programs when she was in good health. She also made sure there were desserts daily for the woodsman and loggers to take to work. Her faithfulness extended to her church, Jerusalem Baptist where she was a member of the choir and attended Bible study and Sunday School weekly. Mrs. Andrew also served as Financial Secretary and as an usher. She thought it not robbery to clean the church on a weekly basis, and she worked diligently in the kitchen preparing meals and serving food.Mrs. Andrew was preceded in death by her spouse, Preniss McCann and Clyde Andrew, Sr; one sister, Nola Sumlin McCarty and one brother, Van Sumlin. Left to cherish her memory are her children; Doris McCann, Claude McCann, Sr. (Juliette), Claudine McCann, and Clyde Andrew, Jr. (Annie).
